Pop culture wise cracking sorta wacky lead character?

Postby CapoDelBandito » Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:24 am

I've been comparing the Classic Deadpool humor to the tv show "Psych". The main character is hyper-observant and a kid of the 80s (where a lot of his references come from) and a total disregard for police procedure, which is why he's a PI not a cop.

Examples of what I think is like Classic DP:

In reference to suspects at a children's spelling bee:

"Actually, we'd like to start with the contestants still in the running. And let's start with the shifty-eyed ones!"

"You know, if this is some sort of hazing ritual and we're gonna end up naked in a field, I'll need to arrange for a ride first."

"I can't watch Channel 8 anymore. Lloyd Lansing wears a toupee. It's like every newscast begins with a lie."

"You missed something. We found prints."
"Was he in a little red corvette?"

"Literally on fire" as in Michael Jackson in the Pepsi commercial, or as in misuse of the word "literally"?

And much much more. I just really enjoy it. Anyone else check it out?

Some other good one liners from the main character:

"I wouldn't say crazy... maybe an eccentric who looks good in jeans."

"It's just that laws keep changing. It's getting very challenging to keep up with them all. For example, did you know that it is now illegal to give a possum a perm?"

"Please. I haven't snuck into your apartment for weeks. Which reminds me, you're all out of peanut butter."

Also a quick one liner about Bea Arthur:

Actor #1: She beat me up.
Gus: I hardly think there's a woman capable of that!
Shawn: Bea Arthur?
Gus: I stand corrected.

I like the show, but Deadpool has never really come to mind when watching it.

Well, the pop culture references, the stream of consciousness speaking, the abstract thought that usually saves the day, etc, reminded me of Deadpool.

I use it when comparing modern Deadpool with Classic.

One is a clown who's sometimes a complete moron, and the other is simply a smartass who's brain is thinking about off the wall stuff, but still somewhat grounded in reality.

Those are basically unused Deadpool lines.
